Hair today, gone tomorrow

Jacob was born with a head full of hair, so naturally he needed a hair cut earlier than most babies. My mother in law insisted that we keep a lock of it tucked away in an envelope for the baby book. We didn't have an envelope so a ziplock bag had to do. That baggie is now sitting in my bathroom drawer waiting for its fate. Every time I open to drawer to brush my teeth I see this baggie full of hair and I am starting to wonder why it is that I need to keep it? Am I seriously going to nostalgically stare at a bag full of dead skin cells that once adorned the head of my child? Wouldn't a picture be much better? Every time I open that drawer the idea of saving it gets weirder and weirder. I actually think it is pretty gross! A month later we took him to one of those kiddie salons to touch up around the ears and neck, and the lady offered me an envelope full of his hair. I politely declined, and she gave me the most disgusted what-kind-of-mother are you look! There are many customs in our culture regarding babies. To this one I say, No thanks!
